It has been a historic start to the 2026 season for the USC baseball team. The Trojans finally suffered their first loss over the weekend, but only after 19 consecutive victories to open the year.
At first, despite its hot start, USC was not getting a ton of respect in the national polls. Finally, however, that appears to be changing.
In this week’s rankings, USC is a consensus top 13 team in the country. On Monday, the Trojans were ranked No. 10 by Perfect Game, No. 11 by USA Today, and No. 13 by both D1Baseball and Baseball America.
Leading the way for USC this year has been its starting pitching. Mason Edwards and Grant Govel—who on Monday was again named the Big Ten pitcher of the week—have combined to form the top duo of pitchers in the country over the first month of the season.
Meanwhile across town, rival UCLA remains the No. 1 team in the country. The two Los Angeles schools are gearing up for a massive showdown when they face off in Westwood in a few weeks.
First, however, USC must focus on its five games this week. The Trojans will host San Diego State on Tuesday night and Cal State Bakersfield Wednesday night before resuming Big Ten play with a three-game series against Washington at Dedeaux Field next weekend.
