Appoquinimink senior is top swimmer, leads Delaware boys All-State teams

Grady Redding is the Swimmer of the Year and headlines the Delaware All-State Boys Swimming and Diving teams announced by the state’s coaches association.

The Appoquinimink senior won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly at the DIAA Swimming and Diving championships on Feb. 28 at the University of Delaware’s Rawstrom Natatorium.

Redding swam personal-best times in both events. His time of 1:38.51 in the 200 freestyle was the fastest winning time at the state meet in 13 years.

Redding is one of 15 first team All-State honorees. The All-State teams, which also include 15 second team and honorable mention recipients, are determined based off performance at the state meet. The swimmers were honored at a banquet March 11.

Newark Charter’s Mike Morton was named Coach of the Year.
