The Miami Marlins kicked off their season against the Colorado Rockies, and it could not have gone better. The starting rotation looked good, the bullpen looked good, and the offense delivered.
The Marlins won all three games, outscoring the Rockies 10-7, and sit in first place in the NL East, while the Philadelphia Phillies sit at the bottom.
It is still early in the season, but fans have to feel good about how the team looks. It is the first time this team has started 3-0 since the 2009 season.

Marlins’ rotation and Owen Caissie deliver high ceiling in Opening Series
Sandy Alcantara got the start on Opening Day, and he did not disappoint. He went seven strong innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out five batters. And with an RBI double from Owen Caissie and one later from Javier Sanoja, Pete Fairbanks was able to deliver his first save.
On Saturday, Caissie would deliver a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth to go along with his three hits. And on Sunday, it would be Caissie again, delivering in the biggest way, hitting a walk-off homer to win the game and sweep the Rockies.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter is impressed with how Miami has opened up the season, even if it was against Colorado.
“Granted it was against the Rockies, but the Marlins had a successful opening weekend with no shortage of positive takeaways. Sandy Alcantara tossed a gem, Pete Fairbanks nailed down his first two save chances, and rookie Owen Caissie went 5-for-10 with two doubles and one home run.”
Acquiring Caissie from the Chicago Cubs looks to be quite the payoff for Miami. If he can continue to keep up this impressive pace, the Marlins will be a team that could surprise plenty this year.
