Mikal Bridges reaches new career milestone in win vs. Grizzlies

After three consecutive road losses to the Hornets, Thunder and Rockets, the New York Knicks were desperate for a win Wednesday in Memphis against the Grizzlies.

That said, they’d be without three of their main contributors, Miles McBride, Mitchell Robinson and three-time All-Star Jalen Brunson.

They began the first quarter with a sense of urgency, outscoring Memphis 48-30 in the first frame.

Although they were outscored in the third, the Knicks took control again in the fourth, ending their four-game road trip with an 11-point victory.

New York finished with five scorers in double-figures, three of whom scored 20 or more.

OG Anunoby led the way with 25 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.

Karl-Anthony Towns added a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Mikal Bridges also impressed with 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting.

Wednesday’s game marked a milestone for Bridges, who’s been the league’s most reliable player since he entered the NBA ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Bridges moved to eighth all-time on the consecutive games played list, passing journeyman Andre Miller.

Of the top-eight, Bridges is the only player whose streak has occurred within the past 25 years, adding a layer of difficulty to the achievement.

With the win, New York increased their lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third seed.

The Cavaliers are now one and a half games behind New York with five games remaining.

As the regular season comes to a close, the Knicks will return home for a matchup Friday against the Bulls.
