The Miami Dolphins need to select a cornerback fairly high in the NFL Draft later this month.
It’s possible JuJu Brents, Jason Marshall, Storm Duck, Darrell Baker and/or Ethan Bonner could start next season, but it’s very likely general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan is looking toward the first two or three rounds to fill a glaring need.
Miami has not re-signed 2025 starters Rasul Douglas and Jack Jones. Both players actually performed reasonably well last season, but the team is financially strapped.
The Dolphins could select a cornerback, edge rusher, offensive lineman and/or wide receiver, in some order, with three picks in the first two rounds of the next NFL Draft.
It would be an upset if Miami did not select a cornerback in Rounds 1, 2 or 3.
Dolphins NFL draft cornerback targets by round:
Round 1, Pick 11: Mansoor Delane, LSU
Consistent. Complete. Fluid. LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane is a cover specialist and a potential CB1. Delane is also a willing tackler. He’s extremely fast. Delane at No. 11 is a dream scenario.
Round 1, Pick 11: Jermod McCoy, Tennessee
If Jermod McCoy wasn’t coming off a torn ACL, he might be the first cornerback taken in this draft. McCoy is effective in press or zone coverage. McCoy is a playmaker.
Round 1, Pick 30: Colton Hood, Tennessee
Patient. Fluid. A determined press corner. Colton Hood is a relatively safe bet to be a good-to-very-good starting CB in the NFL. Willing tackler.
Round 2, Pick 43: Chris Johnson, San Diego State
Physical against the run. Only 6-foot but excellent athleticism. Chris Johnson of San Diego State has good technique and footwork. Attacks the ball.
Round 2, Pick 43: Brandon Cisse, South Carolina
Versatile. Explosive athlete. Room to grow with coaching and experience. Brandon Cisse is a fluid athlete with good vision. He ran a 4.40 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.
