Every year, the NFL Draft finds itself stacked at certain positions, while others may lack quality depth but are top-heavy. In terms of the 2026 NFL Draft, at least among offensive tackles, you are best suited to take one early to make sure you get one of the premier options if you are in need. One of those top players for the position is Utah’s Spencer Fano. What does his scouting report look like? Let’s talk about it.
Fano, a former four-star recruit out of Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, has NFL bloodlines, as four of his uncles played professionally. But the athletes don’t stop there, as his brother Logan is in this draft at linebacker, and his sister plays basketball for Utah Valley. Fano started 35 out of 37 possible games, playing both tackle spots.
This season, Fano won Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year, earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, and was an Outland Trophy finalist.
Spencer Fano is such a fluid athlete for a player of his size at his position. He glides when moving up to the second level, but has that road-grater mentality to seek contact and drive his defender back. Fano tested out of this world at the combine, leading in the three-cone drill. His kick off the snap is second to none in the draft, as he flies out of his stance and is set before his defender knows the ball is snapped. Strong hands that land firm and square, often putting himself in position to block swipes. Drops anchor well and never seems to be pushed off-balance by a stronger rusher. Fano also made all the offensive line adjustments at Utah, which is massive for leadership.
Fano’s biggest opportunity lies in technique. While his hands are good, when he goes against a pure speed rusher, he can leave his chest open, allowing his defender to land and drive quickly. He’s a bit leaner for the position at 310 lbs, and some of the power rushers could find themselves with advantages. Paired with a shorter wingspan, NFL teams may draw concerns about his long-term projection at tackle rather than guard.
Spencer Fano projects as a starting left tackle early into his career and has the potential to be an immediate answer for a team in need. Fano lands as the OT2 on my board, earning a mid-first round grade. Fano has the athletic ability to thrive in a zone-run scheme, where he can run loose and find that next level.
