The Georgia Bulldogs basketball team’s leading scorer is transferring to an SEC rival. Guard Jeremiah Wilkinson is heading to the Arkansas Razorbacks, according to Jeff Borzello. Wilkinson will play under College Basketball Hall-of-Fame coach John Calipari and has two seasons of eligibility left.
As a sophomore this past season, Wilkinson was one of the best scorers in the country. He was a coveted prospect in the transfer portal. Last season, he averaged 17.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game with Georgia. He shot just 41.0% from the field, but he was the heartbeat of a Georgia offense that finished No. 5 nationally in points per game (89.4).
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs crumbled once the regular season ended. The Ole Miss Rebels beat them 76-72 in the SEC Tournament, and in the Round of 64 of March Madness, the Saint Louis Billikens dominated Georgia 102-77. Still, Wilkinson showed up in March Madness, scoring 30 points on nine for 21 shooting. However, it was too little, too late.
Wilkinson began his college career with the California Bears. He transferred to Georgia after being named the ACC’s sixth man of the year. Wilkinson leaves UGA after one season and will be at his third school in three years with Arkansas.
He now goes to an Arkansas Razorbacks team that won the SEC Tournament last season, but is looking for a deeper March Madness run. They made it to the Sweet Sixteen, but they lost to the No. 1 seed Arizona Wildcats 109-88.
Arkansas head coach John Calipari gets the most out of his guards, though. During his time with the Kentucky Wildcats, he’s developed several guards into NBA lottery picks, such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Devin Booker, and Jamal Murray. More recently, he helped develop Darius Acuff, who is a expected to be a top pick in the 2026 NBA draft.
Georgia can stomach the Jeremiah Wilkinson loss a bit, as they have Smurf Millender and Blue Cain returning for next season. However, the departure of center Somto Cyril leaves a big hole. His interior defense earned him a spot on the SEC All-Defensive team this past season. Georgia has yet to make a transfer addition.
