Jesse Adams was named the West Virginia winner of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, announced Thursday by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Adams wrestled his first three seasons at Independence before transferring to Parkersburg South. He finished his high school career last March as only the 28th four-time state champion in West Virginia history. He won the state title at 165 pounds as a freshman, 175 as a sophomore and 190 as a junior at Independence, then won the 190-pound title for Parkersburg South as a senior.
Adams, who finished with a career record of 177-18, will wrestle collegiately at Appalachian State.
The Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award was established in 1996 to honor Olympic and World champion Dave Schultz, whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 1997 and as a member of the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.
The DSHSEA recognizes and celebrates the nation’s most outstanding high school senior male wrestlers for their excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship, and community service.
