Not much was expected of the Los Angeles Angels this season. They haven’t been able to get much of anything going since the 2014 season, their last postseason appearance.
However, Mike Trout has looked great at the plate, and the pitching staff has gotten a boost with what Jose Soriano has done to start the season.
They were starting to make up some ground in the division until this past week. They struggled in their series against the Chicago White Sox, getting swept. And then they were only able to take one game from the New York Mets in their three-game series.

It’s not just about losing the two series last week, but who they lost to. The White Sox, while having Munetaka Murakami, still shouldn’t have enough to get a sweep done, and the Mets are the worst team across MLB with their 12-22 record.
So, with the week they just had, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller drops them from No. 26 to No. 29 in his latest power rankings piece.
“Mike Trout reached base safely in 14 of his 26 plate appearances, bringing his year-to-date OPS to just a shade under 1.000. Fat lot of good it did the Halos, though, as they dropped five of six games and now sit dead-last in the American League standings. They were always likely to be sellers at the trade deadline, but getting swept by the White Sox seems to have all but sealed that fate.”
Miller makes the case for the team to be sellers at the deadline once again. But there is still some time to turn this ship around. They are only 5.5-games out of first place in a division that seems to be pretty open this year.
