The Detroit Lions begin their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Wednesday, and it’ll be the first chance for the media to see the 2026 team in action.
Prior to this week, the Lions’ program has only consisted of Phase 1 and 2 of the offseason. That’s primarily a focus on conditioning, rehab, and some individual and positional drills. The beginning of OTAs means the Lions can now do some team drills, including 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s. Of course, fully padded and full-contract practices are still off the table until a week into training camp.
With the media expected to have access once a week for OTAs and for both mandatory minicamps toward the end of June, it’ll be a good chance to answer some of the biggest questions surrounding the team. And with coach Dan Campbell expected to talk to the media several times over the next month, we can get information directly from the main source.
So on this week’s PODcast, the crew discusses what we’re hoping to see from the next few weeks of OTAs.
As per annual tradition, one of the most noteworthy things we learn are injury updates for the players. Getting news on the statuses of Kerby Joseph, Sam LaPorta, and Brian Branch will be of high priority this week.
Additionally, with no rookie minicamp this year, OTAs will be our first look at Detroit’s 2026 NFL Draft class on the field. For those eager to learn how quickly Blake Miller, Derrick Moore and the rest will fit in with NFL talent, we should start getting answers by the end of the week.
Finally, we also discuss some of the biggest and most interesting positional battles that are just starting to kick off. Whether it’s the logjam of depth in the secondary, the starting job open at left guard, or the maneuvering at linebacker, there’s plenty to keep an eye on. And on this episode of the PODcast, we talk about it all.
The show actually kicks off with talk about Jack Campbell’s extension, and what it means for the rest of the Lions’ 2023 draft class. Catch the episode on your favorite podcasting platform or using the Spotify embed below.
As always, you can also catch the video version of the PODcast over on our YouTube and Twitch channels.
