Washington’s receiver need can be easily argued, with a secondary outside threat opposite Terry McLaurin making the Commanders offense an intimidator. Stefon Diggs and Brandon Aiyuk have been the assumed targets, with significant talk swirling around either of those additions.
What about Buffalo’s Keon Coleman? An ESPN panel pondered a Coleman trade, among a few others, in a post earlier this week.
Three analysts made trade proposals, and ESPN NFL Insider Dan Graziano postured this trade. Let’s read his offer and explanation in full:
Bills get: 2028 fifth-round pick
Commanders get: Coleman
Why this deal makes sense: The Commanders still might end up with Brandon Aiyuk once the 49ers give up and cut him, but that’s taking longer than expected. They need receiver depth behind Terry McLaurin, and this is a low-cost flier on a player with good draft pedigree. Washington still hasn’t re-signed Deebo Samuel, who led the team in targets (99), receptions (72), receiving yards (727) and receiving touchdowns (five) last season.”
ESPN Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg rejected this offer, plus others that analysts created from the Falcons, Ravens and Raiders.
“While the Bills would be intrigued by Walder’s offer from the Falcons, the team is holding firm on Coleman remaining in Buffalo and rejecting all four offers. Coleman has said he understands what is on the line this season, and the Bills are currently committed to giving him this chance. Whether it can all come together in Buffalo, however, is still a big question. — Getzenberg”
Coleman has largely underwhelmed since Buffalo took him with the No. 33 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, with just 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns in 2025.
While Diggs and Aiyuk aren’t clean-cut guaranteed additions, there’s more likelihood they produce well in 2025. There’s a bit of a bet on Coleman, who still has two years left under his rookie contract and seemingly has upside. He averages 19.2 yards per reception in 2024, though he had 1.55 yards per route run.
A 2028 fifth-round pick didn’t get a hypothetical deal done. Would you up the offer to make a Coleman trade work? Or is this a hard pass? Let us know in the comments below.
