The Los Angeles Dodger put together a strong offensive display on Wednesday, with Max Muncy, Tommy Edman and Dalton Rushing all playing huge roles as the Dodgers claimed a series win.
The Dodgers lost the opening game of the series against the Philadelphia Phillies, but a two-run homer off of Muncy’s bat gave them the win in the second game of the set.
Muncy hit yet another two-run home run on Wednesday—passing Ron Cey in the Dodgers’ all-time leaderboard—with the game tied at three after two fantastic at-bats from Dalton Rushing, giving the Dodgers a 5-3 lead, and the rest of the offense did their job to extend the advantage late.
The Dodgers won the game by a score of 9-5.
Eric Lauer’s “Spotless” Record
Eric Lauer started the game for the Dodgers, throwing five innings as the starter. The Phillies struck early against the left-hander, as Alec Bohm jumped on a 1-0 changeup to hit his 13th homer of the season to make the score 2-0.
Lauer didn’t allow another run until the fifth, when Bryan De La Cruz crushed one 404 feet, but had a solid outing altogether. He finished the game with a line of 5.1 innings pitched, allowing three runs while striking out five batters.
The southpaw has pitched in eight games for the Dodgers since arriving in May, and the Dodgers are still yet to lose a game in which he has featured. He has transformed himself since his arrival, posting a 3.35 ERA through 45.2 innings.
Dodgers Rediscover Offense
The Dodgers responded well from the first-inning sucker punch form Bohm, and Dalton Rushing came through in a big way for the Dodgers. Rushing first leveled the game in the top of the third inning, hitting his 11th homer of the season to break an 0-for-19 stretch, then scored two more runs with a double two innings later.
Muncy’s home run came in the sixth inning, after the Phillies had tied the game, and LA added some insurance in the eighth.
Kyle Tucker brought home center fielder Andy Pages with bases-loaded sacrifice fly, and Teoscar Hernandez to load the bases once more for Tommy Edman. Edman lined a ball into the right-center field gap, clearing the bases for the first triple of the season to make the score 9-3.
The Phillies scored a run each in the bottom of the eighth and eighth, though that was all the offense they could muster as the Dodgers strolled to yet another series win following the All-Star break. LA gets an off day on Thursday before traveling back to New York to face the Mets in a three-game series.
The first game of that series comes Friday at 4:10 p.m. PT.
