Worcester: PPD, Make-Up Friday
This game was called quite early in the day due to inclement weather in Buffalo (Blue Jays AAA.) It will be played as part of a double-header Friday, with first pitch at 4:05.
Portland: L, 5-4 (F/10) (BOX SCORE)
The Sea Dogs got walked off in Chesapeake (Orioles AA) after letting the BaySox back in the game through Wahiwa Aloy’s second home run off of Tyler Davis following a fantastic Hayden Mullins outing where no one scored. Sure, this was in direct response to Johanfran Garcia’s 18th of the season, but it took the game into the 10th, where Portland did not score and Chesapeake did.
It’s a shame that Mullins — who looked at the top of his game, allowing just one hit and striking ten out in his six innings of work — couldn’t go longer. It can’t be overstated how great Mullins has been since a rough July (he also saw action in Triple-A in the midst of this slump.) He’s allowed 4 runs (6 total) in his last 26 1/3 innings of work dating back to August 1, good for a 1.39 ERA, striking out 39 batters while allowing just 10 walks. Mullins probably has two starts left this season, but there’s been a lot of growth in 2026 out of the lefty out of Gallatin, TN, who turns 26 on the 14th.
The Sea Dogs could have also done without three defensive errors from Abhram Liendo, as the nine-hole hitter had a rough night at the ballpark, also going hitless, though he did draw a walk. Justin Gonzales going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts batting directly after Liendo certainly didn’t help matters in innings where the two of them were up to bat, and those issues compounded in the loss.
Greenville: W, 9-6 (BOX SCORE)
Someone’s gotta come up with a cool nickname for the two 2026 draft picks out of North Carolina, and it might have to be me. Jake Scaffner and Owen Hull again showed a shine against the Hot Rods (Rays High-A) as they had two hits a piece and Hull would score twice, once on Luke Heyman’s third home run in as many games. Overall, the lineup from top to bottom hit effectively, and Schaffner and Hull both hitting above .300 in their short professional careerss thus far is pretty promising.
Salem: W, 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
The word of the day in Lynchburg (Guardians A) would likely be “gutsy.” The RidgeYaks gutted a win out despite not performing particularly in a manner that jumps off the page because they held the Howlers to the same expectation, but then held them from taking the game anyway with a come-from-behind eighth inning. Christian Foutch went five innings and allowed a run on three hits, the bullpen did fine enough to not allow a huge bleed, and the RidgeYaks loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth and capitalized off of that through the Howlers walking in a run even if the RidgeYaks couldn’t get any considerable hits. Sometimes, giving the other team enough rope is a way to win too, and that was on display Wednesday night.
