Randle star running back Landen Williams-Callis made Houston high school football history Thursday night.
Williams-Callis scored the 137th touchdown of his career during the Lions’ district opener against Victoria East at Traylor Stadium, surpassing Jacquizz Rodgers for the most career touchdowns by a Houston-area player.
Williams-Callis scored the record-tying touchdown on a 40-yard run up the right sideline on the Lions’ opening possession. He scored the record-breaking touchdown on a 32-yard run up the right sideline a short time later.
Williams-Callis, a five-star Texas commit and the reigning Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year, entered the game with 135 career touchdowns – 127 rushing, seven receiving and one kickoff return. He needed two touchdowns to pass Rodgers, his older cousin, who scored 136 during his career at Lamar Consolidated from 2004-07.
Williams-Callis entered the night with 7,931 career rushing yards, needing just 69 to reach 8,000. With his second touchdown, he became just the fifth player in Houston high school football history to achieve that milestone.
Williams-Callis rushed for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns last season while scoring a Houston-area single-season record 61 total touchdowns.
