Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins believes that Stephen Curry’s recent interview was a message to Golden State Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.
The four-time NBA champion reiterated on CNBC’s ‘Squawk on the Street’ that he wanted to be a ‘lifer with the Golden State’ Warriors.
Since the franchise drafted Steph Curry in 2009, he has been one of their most successful players, but in recent years, the team have failed to surround him with the right players.
The addition of Jimmy Butler was expected to elevate the team, but after a season and a half, the six-time All-Star injured his ACL.
The Warriors have been linked with some major stars in the past few trade windows, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James and even Kevin Durant, but have failed to land either of them.
This led Kendrick Perkins to call out their General Manager, Mike Dunleavy Jr. on ESPN’s NBA Today show.
“Loyalty in today’s game you don’t see that in players, the fact that Steph Curry’s been riding with them over the last three or four years knowing that he wants to win a championship,” Perkins said.
“To me what this interview said is, Mike Dunleavy, you have to do your da** job.
“I don’t want to hear reports of ‘The Warriors are in the hunt, the Warriors are in the mix, they was in the mix to get Giannis.’ Why are you not landing them?”
Dunleavy took over the GM position from Bob Myers, one of the best executives in the NBA during his time in the Bay.
With the team not having gone past the second round since their championship triumph in 2022, the pressure will now be on Dunleavy to deliver, especially with Curry in the last few years of his career.
