GAINESVILLE, FL — Star Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss entered the week as a Heisman Trophy favorite, but the Rebels were dealt their first loss of the season.
No. 22 Florida beat No. 6 Ole Miss 52-28 on Sept. 26 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The Gators (4-0, 2-0) held Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) in check for much of the game. Ole Miss had only two field goals going into halftime.
Star Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss finished 25-for-34 passing for 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was big for the Rebels as a rusher. He led the team with 44 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns.
The absence of star running back Kewan Lacy was noticeable. There was a major difference from how Chambliss played in Week 3 against LSU when Chambliss passed for 363 yards and had three total touchdowns, although Lacy missed part of the second half of that game with a shoulder injury.
Trinidad Chambliss injury update
Chambliss briefly left the game with 6:31 remaining in the first quarter but did not miss an offensive snap.
He was hit while diving after a run. It left the Rebels with fourth-and-1 at the 46-yard line. He tried to go into a slide to avoid a collision but he was hit and judged as a runner. There was no flag.
Deuce Knight is the backup quarterback who replaced Chambliss. Knight came in and looked ready to take the snap, but Ole Miss called timeout and punted.
Chambliss returned on the next offensive drive. The TV broadcast reported he had a bruise to his left quad and rib.

Chambliss entered the week tied atop the Heisman Trophy odds. Chambliss was tied for first at +325 with Miami quarterback Darian Mensah, according to BetMGM.
