Texas A&M football is looking for a get-right game on Saturday, as they host the Arkansas Razorbacks at Kyle Field for the first time since 2020.
The Aggies have suffered back-to-back losses and are coming off one of their worst offensive performances in four years against No. 10 LSU. Texas A&M’s offense produced just under 200 yards for the first time since 2022, and they must fix that moving forward.
An opponent like Arkansas could be the Aggies’ prime opportunity to bounce back. The Razorbacks rank No. 10 in the conference, allowing 324.8 yards per game this season.
Here is everything linebacker Noah Mikhail and offensive guard Wilkin Formby said previewing the Arkansas showdown during Tuesday’s player press conference:
Mikhail on the frustrations entering Week 5
“I say the most frustrating thing is we’re beating ourselves,” Mikhail said.
Mikhail explains Texas A&M’s struggles
“I think it’s just a lack of focus. Honestly, it comes down to trusting that you don’t have to do more than your job. You just got to do your job, and when you have your eyes on the right piece, you know it’s all going to figure itself out,” Mikhail said.
Mikhail on the improvements being made in practice
“I think out at practice today, we’re communicating more, we’re having fun with it, we’re talking more, we’re trying to create that energy on the defensive side to bring everybody up, make everybody’s play be better,” Mikhail said.
Mikhail discusses the importance of Texas A&M applying more pressure on opposing quarterbacks
“I don’t think we need to you know from the standpoint of scheme stuff changed too much. I think they’re gonna do what I know they’re capable of doing, and they’re gonna make it to the quarterback,” Mikhail said.
Formby on playing guard for the Aggies
“I came here for one to get developed, and that’s something that I’ve just been thinking about the past couple of days,” Formby said. “After playing some guard, my coaches kind of just saw a need for me to play guard, and that was the best for our team. And so, I’m obviously going to be very cooperative and supportive of their decision. I want to win.”
Formby explains the difference between playing guard and tackle
“There’s things that are easier and harder that come with both. I mean, playing guard, everything’s a lot faster, everything’s quick, so just being able to play. I’m a really tall guy, so trying to stay lower and develop myself in the run game at guard as well,” Formby said.
Formby previews Arkansas
“They have a really good defensive front. They have a lot of guys that play and rotate. A lot of talented players up front. They have a good talented box, so it’s going to be a great matchup,” Formby said.
Formby discusses the depth of the Texas A&M offensive line
“I think eight, nine guys could be able to play. That’s just the reality of our offensive line. We have a lot of talented players,” Formby said.
Formby believes in Marcel Reed
“I have a lot of belief in Marcel. He’s one of the hardest workers on the team, and I know he has a lot of pressure just as every SEC or high level quarterback has, but I got the utmost respect and belief for Marcel, and I know that he can do what he needs to do,” Formby said. “We just got to give him the time to go play at a high level and just keep helping to breed his conference every day in practice and in the next games to come.”
