Before the Houston Astros can even consider playing a third game of their wild-card series against the Chicago White Sox, they first need to focus on extending the series with a Game 2 win Wednesday afternoon.
If Hunter Brown and the Astros are able to do that, they’ll have to wait around a bit to find out what time Game 3 starts Thursday. It all will depend on what happens in the the other three wild-card series with Astros-White Sox potential start times varying from as early as 1 p.m. to as late as 7 p.m. It could also be moved from NBC Sports Network to regular NBC, which would be a joy for most fans watching from home.
Here’s what has to happen for each of the different potential start times …
Astros-White Sox will start at 1 p.m. and be on NBC if …
- The Braves finish off the sweep of the Phillies and the other two series go to a third game. The Astros-White Sox deciding game will move into the 1 p.m. slot and be televised nationally on NBC. The Red Sox-Yankees will play at 7 p.m. on NBC, while the Cubs-Padres would be at 9 p.m. on NBC Sports Network and Peacock.
- If both the Braves and Padres finish off their sweep, then the Astros-White Sox will play at 1 p.m. and the Red Sox-Yankees will play at 7 p.m. with both games on NBC.
- If both the Braves and Yankees finish off their sweep, then the Astros-White Sox will play at 1 p.m. and the Cubs-Padres will play at 7 p.m. with both games on NBC.
- If both the Yankees and Cubs finish off their sweep, then the Astros-White Sox will play at 1 p.m. and the Phillies-Braves will play at 7 p.m. with both games on NBC.
Astros-White Sox will start at 4 p.m. if …
- All four series go to a third game, then Astros-White Sox will be at 4 p.m. and broadcast on NBC Sports Network and streamed on Peacock.
- If the Padres finish off the sweep of the Cubs while the other two series get extended, then Astros-White Sox will be at 4 p.m. and broadcast on NBC Sports Network and streamed on Peacock. The Phillies and Braves will be played at 1 p.m. and Red Sox-Yankees will be at 7 p.m. with both games televised by NBC.
- If the Yankees finish off the sweep of the Cubs while the other two series get extended, then Astros-White Sox will be at 4 p.m. and broadcast on NBC Sports Network and streamed on Peacock. The Phillies and Braves will be played at 1 p.m. and Cubs-Padres will be at 7 p.m. with both games televised by NBC.
Astros-White Sox will start at 7 p.m. if …
- If all the other series finish in sweeps except for the Astros-White Sox, then, as the lone game of the day, it will be played at 7 p.m. and televised on NBC.
