Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II and cornerback Pat Bryant suffered ankle injuries during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. There has been some speculation that either or both could land on injured reserve.
Coach Sean Payton was asked about it on Wednesday.
“That’s jumping way ahead,” Payton told reporters. “I don’t think so, and if they were I wouldn’t say so, but I don’t think so.”
The key words were this: “If they were I wouldn’t say so.” So he’s not saying so. And they can delay the move until Saturday in order to start the four-game clock for their return with the Week 5 game against the Chargers.
For now, it’s unlikely either will play on Sunday. It’s even less likely that the Broncos will disclose anything more than what the injury report requires.
