The Tennessee Titans are off to a slow start in 2026 and enter Week 5 against the winless Houston Texans for several reasons.
One of the season’s most noticeable issues is quarterback Cam Ward’s uneven play. Ward has looked uncomfortable in the new Brian Daboll system, and his inaccuracy on basic throws has become alarming. This has some fans wondering whether he is the long-term answer at quarterback.
Ward has the arm strength and talent to be an elite signal caller, but his mechanics, specifically his footwork, may be holding him back. At least that is what longtime NFL analyst Greg Cosell sees on Ward’s tape.
“He still needs SO much work with his footwork…”

Cosell isn’t the only analyst who has seen this and said the same thing. In a recent social media post, Dan Orlovsky pointed to Ward’s footwork as his primary issue, and Daboll and his staff are working on it.

Last week against the Baltimore Ravens, Ward had his best game in 2026, and there’s hope he’ll keep building on it. But until Ward can consistently repeat his footwork and mechanics, it could be some time before he reaches his full potential.
