Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks caps off big Thanksgiving by jumping out of his shoe for game-sealing catch

With the Green Bay Packers’ Thanksgiving game on the line, Dontayvion Wicks went up with two shoes and came down with the win. And one shoe.

The Packers wide receiver sealed the game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, with a highlight-reel catch on 4th-and-3. Despite having Pro Bowl safety Brian Branch breathing down his neck, Wicks managed to haul the ball in from quarterback Jordan Love for a first down, allowing the Packers to kneel out the rest of the clock for a 31-24 win.

He left his right shoe behind in the process.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was amped up after the play, giving Wicks a hug best described as “aggressive.”

The catch wrapped up a big day for Wicks, who finished with six catches on seven targets for 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns, all team highs. It was the third multi-touchdown game of his three-year career.

He was a major part of a four-touchdown day for Love, with their first touchdown another standout grab.

Their second touchdown was a bit more controversial.

It had previously been a slow season for Wicks, who entered the game with only 213 receiving yards and zero touchdowns. His 44 yards in Week 2 represented a season high. So Thanksgiving represents an encouraging step forward for the 24-year-old.

The win was a big one for the Packers, who now sit at 8-3-1 and can move into first place in the AFC North if the Chicago Bears lose to the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday. Either way, next week’s Bears-Packers game is shaping up to be a massive one.
