The Miami Dolphins have a lot of work to do in rebuilding their roster following the massive swath of cuts they made this offseason. Bradley Chubb, Tua Tagovailoa, and Tyreek Hill all need to be replaced.
While Malik Willis was signed to a $67.5 million contract over the next three years, the Dolphins need to find a new wide receiver or two to replace Hill.
They’ve already signed Tutu Atwell, and according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins are now in agreement with former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert on a one-year contract.
Dolphins to sign Jalen Tolbert to one-year deal
“Sources: Former Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert is signing with the Dolphins on a 1-year deal,” Schultz reports. “Tolbert is close with Malik Willis, who was his QB at the Senior Bowl when they were entering the league.”
The 27-year-old Tolbert is close with the Dolphins’ new quarterback, which should help his transition to the Dolphins’ offense this offseason.
With only Jaylen Waddle firmly ahead of him, Tolbert has a chance to win the number two job, and with what he’s shown at times in Dallas, it’s not far-fetched.
In his four years with the Cowboys, Tolbert has 1,093 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 91 receptions. This past season, he caught 18 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown.

His usage dipped with the arrival of George Pickens, but in 2024, when Tolbert was the number two receiver, he had a very productive season.
On 79 targets in 17 games, Tolbert had 49 receptions for 610 yards and seven touchdowns. Despite the Cowboys’ offense being a bit shaky for most of the year, thanks to injuries, Tolbert still had a solid season in 2024.
Now a free agent, Tolbert has decided to leave the Cowboys behind and come to Miami to have a chance to start as the team’s number two opposite Waddle.
His connection to Willis, and the upside he’s shown in his career makes this a much more interesting addition than a simple depth wide receiver pickup.
