A.J. Brown might be traded by the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, but it won’t happen until after the NFL Draft.
Per The Athletic’s senior reporter Dianna Russini, the Eagles were in serious conversations with the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams about deals involving A.J. Brown going the other way.
But after the first few days of free agency and the Eagles not getting a good enough offer to pull the trigger, Russini is reporting that Philadelphia will hold onto the talented wideout for the time being.
While the Eagles won’t be trading him immediately, that doesn’t mean a deal with the Patriots or Rams is dead in the water, as both teams are still intrigued by doing a possible deal down the line.
Russini believes that Brown trade talks will pick up closer to training camp once June hits, following the roster reshuffling that comes from after the NFL Draft in late April.
Brown, from multiple sources, asked to be traded during the 2025 season but was denied. After a tumultuous season for the defending champions, he might get his wish, but maybe not for a few more months.
For the Patriots, the deal would be a no-brainer, following their Super Bowl shellacking when their anemic offense couldn’t do much against the Seattle Seahawks.
Brown is still only 28 years old and is in the prime of his career, and would give league MVP runner-up Drake Maye an undisputed leading wide receiver to throw to after dealing with a hodgepodge of wideouts last season.
Over in Los Angeles, Brown isn’t needed but could make the Rams one of the scariest teams heading into a season in the past decade. After already strengthening their defense during free agency, Brown playing alongside Puka Nacua and Davante Adams with MVP Matthew Stafford would somehow take the already best offense in the NFL and make it scarier.
