The Green Bay Packers clinched a Thanksgiving win over the Detroit Lions thanks to bold play-calling by coach Matt LaFleur and a great catch by Dontavayion Wicks.
The Packers led 31-24 when LaFleur decided to go for it fourth-and-3 from Detroit’s 45-yard line with 1:55 left in regulation.
The Lions were out of timeouts, so a first down would end the game. However a failure to convert would gift Detroit great field position with ample time left in regulation to mount a comeback.
LaFleur’s aggressive decision paid off thanks to some heroics from Wicks. The 24-year-old receiver came across the middle of the field with Lions safety Brian Branch in tight pursuit.
Jordan Love decided to throw the ball in Wicks’ direction despite the strong coverage. The Virginia product was able to outjump Branch despite losing a shoe, high-point the ball and complete the catch to seal the victory.
