The Big Ten is home to two of the top three hockey teams in the country, making the conference tournament a potential Frozen Four preview.
National No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Michigan State are through to the semifinals, with each set to host a game Saturday. Though the Wolverines have the better national ranking, the Spartans are the top seed in the tourney and had a first-round bye in a new format that saw the Big Ten return to single-game quarterfinals instead of best-of-three series for the first time since 2017.
Michigan State will host No. 5 seed Ohio State, which stunned Wisconsin 7-1 in Madison in the quarters. Michigan eased past Notre Dame to open its tourney and will face Penn State, which had a similarly easy time with Minnesota in the quarterfinals.
The Spartans have won the last two Big Ten tournament titles after the Wolverines took the two before that. Can the Great Lakes State keep the trophy at home again this year?
