BOSTON — The Boston Celtics made history against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night — but nobody scored 84 points. Instead, the Celtics prevailed 111-100 at TD Garden, marking their 11th straight victory against the Wizards. That’s enough for Boston’s longest win streak versus D.C. in franchise history.
During the double-digit win, Celtics center Neemias Queta led the team in scoring (for the second time all season) and notched 22 points in just 25 minutes of play. Star forward Jayson Tatum added 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists — coming just 3 assists shy of a triple-double. He logged over 27 minutes for the first time all season, perhaps shedding his minutes restriction. Fellow star Jaylen Brown also contributed 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
As for the Wizards, star point guard Trae Young recorded 11 points on 50% shooting in his first game against the Celtics this season. D.C. lost the battle on the glass (55 rebounds to 38 rebounds) and in the paint (54 points to 30 points), explaining why it trailed Boston by as many as 30 points. The last time the Wizards defeated the C’s was nearly three years ago in March of 2023, when center Kristaps Porzingis dropped a game-high 32 points on his future team. Since then, they’ve lost to the Green Team by 10 points or more 10 times.
In the present, the Celtics are now 43-24 overall and have swept the season series versus the Wizards for the third straight time. Up next are the scrappy Phoenix Suns, who they’ll host at TD Garden on Monday night.
