The Kansas City Chiefs made a major move Monday morning for a backup quarterback.
The Chiefs traded with the New York Jets for Justin Fields, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Trade: the New York Jets are finalizing a deal that will send QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical, per ESPN sources. Other teams were interested, but Fields’ preference was to go to Kansas City.”

Fields, as many know, was drafted by the Chicago Bears out of college but has since been on several teams, including the Jets.
The Chiefs desperately need a backup quarterback, and there were rumors as late as last night that former Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, and current New York Giants backup Russell Wilson was in the mix, but it didn’t work out.
According to Zach Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the Jets are paying off everything except $3 million of Fields’ $10 million guaranteed salary.
In return, the Chiefs get a young backup to Patrick Mahomes who has shown promise in the past and can learn not only from a pro like Mahomes, who can mentor him, but also from a great offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy.
