The NCAA Tournament tips off this week as 68 teams look to cut down the nets come April and be crowned national championships. One former North Carolina player who has a lot of success in the tournament is Tyler Hansbrough who went to two Final Fours and won a national title.
The four-time All-American was in the Barstool Sports Chicago office on Monday ahead of participating in a “Pros vs. Joes” style basketball game. But before that, he appeared on “The Yak” where he spent some time talking to the hosts.
Among the topics of conversation was North Carolina’s win over Duke in the Dean Dome back in Feburary. Being on the radio call for that game, Hansbrough was asked about Duke head coach Jon Scheyer’s claim of a staffer being punched in the court storming.
Hansbrough answered in a fun way, saying he didn’t see anything happen but also didn’t call Scheyer a liar, while answering in a funny way.
“You know, I told somebody this. I was right there, I was on the radio, I was at the scorers’ table,” Hansbrough said. “I didn’t see it. I’m not saying he’s a liar, I’m not saying it happened but if I’m Jon Scheyer, I walk into the locker room, I find an assistant coach and I cold clock him right in his face. I tell him ‘Yo, one of these Carolina fans did that to you. I just lied my balls off to the press and said we got mugged out here.'”
Hansbrough went on to talk about the double court storming and how rare that was. He also said how luck UNC was to win that game due to them not leading until the end.
It’s all in good fun for Hansbrough who still has some hatred for Duke and it was a pretty hilarious answer.
