The Las Vegas Raiders spent the opening wave of NFL free agency preparing for Fernando Mendoza’s arrival at quarterback. The Raiders got aggressive by signing center Tyler Linderbaum to a historic contract. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor was also brought in to help upgrade the pass-catching corps.
As the entire NFL enters the second wave of free agency, there are still opportunities for the Raiders to improve their offense. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is shockingly still available, topping the list of wideouts on the market. Should the Raiders sign Jennings?
Jennings was probably expecting to sign a Romeo Doubs-like (four years, $68 million) or Wan’Dale Robinson-like (four years, $70 million) contract. It’s safe to assume Jennings’ market hasn’t developed like he thought he would. Spotrac predicted he’d have a market value of $22.6 million per season. If such an offer materialized, he’d be signed already.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak spent the 2023 season as Jennings’ passing game coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers. He was limited to 13 appearances as a reserve receiver that year, but did average a career-high 13.2 yards per catch. Jennings would be very familiar with Kubiak’s playbook and scheme, making him an excellent fit in Vegas.
The Raiders are still equipped with roughly $26 million in cap space. It’s not a ton of financial flexibility, but if Jennings’ asking price dips to $15 million or lower, John Spytek could probably swing that. The Raiders should continue monitoring Jennings’ developing market.
