On the first day of the 2026 NCAA tournament, High Point University turned in the biggest win. After a tough, back-and-forth battle with No. 5 seed Wisconsin, High Point came up big with a block in the final seconds to pull off the upset.
It was an epic win, one deserving of a tremendous call. Thankfully, High Point student radio was able to deliver just that.
The team’s student radio broadcast started garnering attention after the win, not just for their entertaining reactions to High Point’s win, but for an excellent call once the game was decided.

The clip is the perfect encapsulation of High Point’s win. The color commentator did a great impression of fans watching the game, reacting with shock and awe as High Point fought back, gained the lead and eventually won the game.
The play-by-play commentary was great throughout, though really elevated at the end. Once the buzzer hit, the play-by-play broadcaster played up the moment, saying, “Throw on the glass slipper. It’s a Cinderella story in Portland, Oregon. For the first time in program history, High Point breaks through. We will see you in the Round of 32.”
The note about breaking through was well-observed. Coming into the contest, High Point was 0-57 all-time against power conference opponents. Now, the team is 1-57 in such matchups.
With the win, High Point will advance to the second round, where it will take on No.4 Arkansas, which defeated No. 13 Hawaii on Thursday.
It also means the High Point student radio team will have another game to call. After rising to the moment in the first round, here’s hoping they get another exciting matchup to call in the Round of 32.
