Blue Jays lose pitcher to American League rival four days before Opening Day

Connor Seabold didn’t waste much time finding a new home. He didn’t have much time to waste.

Two days after he was released by the Toronto Blue Jays, Seabold signed a split contract with the Detroit Tigers on March 23. The right-handed pitcher will make $800,000 if he’s in the majors, according to multiple reports.

Seabold struck out an impressive 13 batters in 6.2 Grapefruit League innings with the Blue Jays. He also walked four batters and hit three more for the defending American League champions.

To make room on their 40-man roster for Seabold, the Tigers placed Beau Brieske (left adductor strain) on the 60-day injured list.

The Blue Jays open their season against the A’s in Toronto on March 27.
