This winter, the SouthCoast saw Wareham boys basketball capture its third state title in the past four years while Apponequet girls basketball reached the Final Four for the first time since 1999. In hockey, Bishop Stang girls had the deepest run, making it to the Div. 1 Elite 8.
Now it’s time to shine a spotlight on the athletes that made this winter a season to remember.
But, before we announce our super teams, we need more help from our readers to help choose our Player of the Year in each sport. Like our polls from this past fall, the list has been narrowed down to the most elite athletes in the area.
Vote for the SouthCoast High School Girls Hockey Player of the Year below. Reader votes will make up 25% of the tally, with Sports Editor Laurie Los Lee making up the rest of the vote.
Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by school.
Voting will conclude at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1.

Vivienne Melo, Bishop Stang
As a two-year starter in net, the sophomore goalie logged 693 minutes played and finished the year with a .948 save percentage and a 1.10 goals against average. She was the Catholic Central League’s defensive player of the year.
Alexis Pettinato, Bishop Stang
The junior defenseman did a little bit of everything for Bishop Stang on its way to a trip to the Div. 1 Elite 8. Not only did she have a strong defensive presence, she also led the Spartans in scoring with 11 goals and 5 assists for 16 points.
