The Miami Hurricanes quickly built one of the top offenses in college football this offseason, adding the likes of quarterback Darien Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate to pair with running back Mark Fletcher Jr. and phenom receiver Malachi Toney.
Now, per a report from Rivals’ Chad Simmons, the Hurricanes are considered the favorite in the recruitment of 2028 five-star cornerback A’mir Sears.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pounder is the No. 1 cornerback and No. 3 player overall in the 2028 class, per 247 Sports Composite. He competes for Miami Columbus High School in Miami, where he’s the second-ranked player in the state behind five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright.
“The relationships with the coaches, how they value me and my connection with the players make it easy and fun at Miami,” Sears told Rivals. “They all know my family. I’m comfortable there and I like Miami both on and off the field.”

Sears also holds offers from Oregon, LSU, USC and Texas A&M, with all still in the mix with tons of time remaining before he has to sign with a program.
Speaking to Rivals, the Miami native said that committing to the Hurricanes and staying home would be an ideal situation, as he could stay near family and “be that hometown guy from Miami.”
Sears also revealed that reclassifying to the 2027 class is on the table, expediting his commitment date and eventual decision.
