The Kansas City Chiefs‘ 2025 season ended with a disappointing miss of the postseason and their superstar quarterback suffering a devastating knee injury.
Patrick Mahomes returned to the field in a surprising video on Wednesday, showcasing his mobility 102 days after his injury. On December 14th, 2025, Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL late during the Chiefs’ Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He was helped off the field that day, and he’s back ahead of schedule, throwing passes in a video posted to his social media account.

Mahomes’ surgery was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys’ team physician, a day after the injury on December 15th.
“The doctor says that I could be, but I can’t predict what’s going to happen throughout the process, but that’s my goal, so I’ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play in that Week 1 and have no restrictions,” said Mahomes to reporters on January 15th. “You want to be out there healthy and give us the best chance to win.” Obviously, I hope to be able to do some work in OTAs, get to training camp, and hopefully do a lot there. I’m excited for the process. It’s a long process, but I’m excited for it.”
Kansas City recently acquired quarterback Justin Fields via trade with the New York Jets as the new backup, especially if Mahomes couldn’t start the season. The new social media footage raises optimism for his return to the lineup ahead of Week 1.
