The Los Angeles Lakers took another step toward finishing with the Western Conference’s third seed when they pushed past the Brooklyn Nets for a 116-99 victory on Friday. They now have a 48-26 record, and they largely hold their destiny in their own hands as far as claiming that third seed.
But in the third quarter of Friday’s game, Luka Doncic received his 16th technical foul of the season when he and Nets forward Ziaire Williams had a relatively minor dust-up. Doncic gave Williams a light push, and Williams reacted by hitting Doncic with his open hand.
Unless the NBA rescinds this technical foul, Doncic will face an automatic one-game suspension, per league rules. He said afterward that he didn’t feel he did anything to earn that technical.
“I didn’t even talk,” he said. “I just wanted to get out of there. They said my push was exaggerated, which was obviously not.”
Doncic had received what would’ve been his 16th technical foul of the season on Saturday, March 21, in a win over the Orlando Magic when he and Goga Bitadze exchanged some trash talk. But it was rescinded, saving him from an automatic one-game suspension.
The Lakers’ next game will be on Monday against the Washington Wizards. They will then host the Cleveland Cavaliers the following evening.
