Donald Trump said Tiger Woods “lives a life of pain,” but is “doing great,” after a conversation the president had with Woods following his DUI arrest last week in Martin County.
Trump told the New York Post he talked with Woods and said the 15-time major champion is under “tremendous physical pressure” from back and leg injuries.
Added Trump: “I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good.”
Woods, 50, is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.
Woods is facing charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test following a March 27 accident in Jupiter Island, not far from his home. Woods was arrested and released from jail that night and driven home in a private vehicle.
The wreck was the second time since 2021 that Woods has been in a crash in which his vehicle rolled over and the second time since 2017 he has been arrested on DUI charges.
“He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” Trump, who lives in Palm Beach, said in the interview with The New York Post.
“He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”
Woods underwent a seventh back surgery in October, seven months after suffering a ruptured Achilles.
According to the police report that was released March 31 by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods had difficulty following directions while taking sobriety tests following the crash and was carrying two pills revealed to be hydrocodone.
“He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain,” Trump said.

The deputy observed signs of impairment when speaking to Woods. His eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and his pupils “extremely dilated,” according to the police report.
When asked if he had consumed alcohol, Woods said “none.” When asked if he consumed any prescription medication, Woods said, “I take a few,” and said he had taken his prescription medication in the morning.
Woods then was given several exercises and on each he had to be reminded at least once to follow directions.
The deputy wrote that based on his observations he believed Woods’ normal faculties were impaired and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle.
Deputies then placed Woods under arrest.
