The Los Angeles Lakers are shorthanded. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are both out injured.
That leaves more duties for the likes of Luke Kennard. And on Sunday night against the Dallas Mavericks, Kennard delivered, and then some.
Kennard had a stat line he’s never had before. In fact, his specific stats had never been put up in NBA history.
There’s a social media account called Balligami that tracks whether a points-rebounds-assists trifecta had ever been done in the league before.
Kennard’s trio of stats on Sunday was brand new: 15 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists.

The bad news for the Lakers is that it didn’t help them beat the Mavericks, who got 45 points from Cooper Flagg and won, 134-128.
Kennard’s line was actually also a lot worse than it could’ve been. He shot just 5-for-17 from the floor, including 1-for-5 from 3-point range.
It’s still encouraging for the Lakers in one sense — Kennard proved he can make some good things happen in a higher-usage role while his star teammates are out.
If he can put up more triple-doubles while also increasing his shooting efficiency, that’d be a big development in Los Angeles.
