With the NFL draft eight days away, speculation on what the Tennessee Titans will do with the fourth overall selection is going in multiple directions.
In just the past few days, theories have been all over the place. Is it Jeremiyah Love, Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, Carnell Tate? A wildcard? Or a trade? Clearly, no one outside the organization is truly locked in on what general manager Mike Borgonzi will do. But one former NFL general manager sees one player as a perfect fit.
In an interview with the Betway Insider, former Las Vegas Raiders general manager Mike Mayock weighed in on Love and believes he is a perfect fit for the Titans.
Jeremiyah Love is considered by many to be the best player in the draft. Where’s the ideal fit for him?
It’s a good question, and I think you have to define it with some boundaries because he’s not going to go beyond the top 10.
I think Tennessee at No. 4 and the Giants at No. 5 are intriguing for him.
I don’t even know if he gets to five, though. At four, I think Tennessee’s intriguing also. You’ve got Cam Ward, and Brian Daboll also knows how to run the football. They’ve got another situation there that I like. Robert Saleh is really solid. Even though he’s a defensive guy, the system he comes out of in San Francisco is about running the ball, wide zone, play action. I think Love fits that to a tee, and I love either of those situations for him.
At first glance, younger fans may discount this perspective, but prior to his stint with the Raiders, Mayock was one of the top voices in draft coverage. For many years, he was a reliable source when building the mock drafts that have overwhelmed the pre-draft process.
There is no doubt that Love fits the system and would be a dynamic complement to Cam Ward in the Titans’ backfield. The biggest question is whether or not Borgonzi will look past positional value and take the best player available, and that is exactly what Love would be.
