It will be a busy day in Boston as the city prepares for the 130th Boston Marathon and the Red Sox‘s annual Patriots’ Day game at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox are expected to turn to veteran right-hander Sonny Gray, who is hoping to bounce back after a rough start in Minnesota last week. The Tigers will send out Jack Flaherty and look to win their third straight road game.
Can Boston secure a win on Monday and move up in the AL East standings before a pivotal rivalry series against the Yankees?

Red Sox vs. Tigers live updates, highlights from 2026 Patriots’ Day game
11:57 a.m.: There are now two runners on for Detroit, with Gray walking Torres. It brings up Greene, the dangerous hitter.
Alex Cora is on the mound to talk to Gray.
11:54 a.m.: There are two outs in the inning, with Gray striking out McGonigle for his second strikeout of the day.
There’s a runner on first with Torres coming up to the plate.
Red Sox 2, Tigers 1
11:51 a.m.: Detroit is on the board, with Jake Rogers hitting a single and bringing home Vierling.
It cuts the Red Sox lead in half.
11:49 a.m.: The Tigers have a leadoff double to start the inning, with Matt Vierling lining one to left.
Boston gets a groundout on Lee, but Vierling advances to third, and the Tigers runner is 90 feet away with one out.
End of the second inning: Red Sox 2, Tigers 0
11:45 a.m.: It’s now 2-0, with Wilyer Abreu drawing the fourth walk of the day for Boston and advancing every runner up a base.
While Masataka Yoshida grounds out to end the inning, it’s not before the Red Sox put up a two-spot to break the deadlock.
11:42 a.m.: Contreras flies out to center, and the throw keeps Mayer at third. Now, there are two outs in the inning.
11:40 a.m.: The bases are loaded for Boston after Flaherty’s third walk of the day.
Coming up is Contreras, who had the first hit of the afternoon for the Red Sox.

11:38 a.m.: The Red Sox are on the board.
It’s Carlos Narvaez who gets a bunt down, and it looks like Jack Flaherty will be able to get Durbin, who is halfway between third and home. But, the Tigers pitcher misses the throw, allowing Durbin to score and the runners to be safe.
With it, the Red Sox take the first lead of the day.
11:37 a.m.: Boston has runners on the corners.
After a Durbin walk, Mayer singles and Durbin goes all the way to third. It’s a prime opportunity to score the first run of the day.
11:32 a.m.: It’s a 1-2-3 inning for Gray in the second, getting Kerry Carpenter to fly out to retire the side.
Due up in the bottom of the inning for Boston is Jarren Duran, Caleb Durbin and Marcelo Mayer.
End of the first inning: Tigers 0, Red Sox 0
11:25 a.m.: With two runners on and two outs, Trevor Story blasts a ball right to the Green Monster, but Riley Greene makes an acrobatic play to perfectly time the catch. It ends the inning, and the Red Sox strand two runners on.
Through one inning, the game is scoreless.
11:20 a.m.: The Red Sox are on base courtesy of Contreras, who lines a single to third base and off the glove of Hao-Yu Lee.
The Boston offense is in business.
11:16 a.m.: After the leadoff hit, Gray gets out of the inning in seven pitches, with Colt Keith flying out to center.
We head to the bottom of the first, where we will see the Red Sox offense for the first time.
11:15 a.m.: The lead runner is on base for Detroit. It’s Kevin McGonigle, who recently signed a $150 million extension, who lines the second pitch to center field.
Though, the runner is short-lived, as Gleyber Torres grounds right to Willson Contreras, who turns a 3-6-3 double play.
11:11 a.m.: Here come Sonny Gray and the Red Sox, and we are all set for first pitch.
Gray is making his fifth start of the season.
