The vibes are good again, so why not keep them going? Today the Scottish Premier League began revealing end of season awards, and thereโs good news โ Mikey Moore, who has spent the season on loan at Rangers, has won the SPL Young Player of the Year award!
Moore has made 28 league appearances for Rangers and has scored six goals and tallied three assists. Heโs been a little in and out of the side, but has definitely established himself as a player able to play top level football (in Scotland). Heโs made 43 appearances in all competitions with a npXG of 4.53, meaning heโs slightly overachieved in scoring this season. Moore nabbed the award ahead of Dundee defender Luke Graham, Falkirk striker Barney Stewart and Aberdeen midfielder Findlay Marshall.
That is not at all shabby for an 18 year old kid having his first taste of first team football. Itโs probably wise for us not to get too far out over our skis on Mikey โ heโs barely an adult, has had some growing pains at Rangers this season, and thereโs a massive gap between the level of Scottish Premier League football and English Premier League football. Anyone who thinks heโs going to waltz into the first team and start dominating next season (assuming Spurs stay up) is probably going to be disappointed.
I donโt know what Spursโ plans are for Moore next season. That said, heโd probably cook in the Championship, or at least cook more than he would in the top flight, and I can definitely see him getting a high level Champo loan if (inshallah) Spurs are able to stay in the Premier League by the end of the season, and depending on his offseason he might be able to carve out a reserve role in next yearโs first team. Mikeyโs definitely a talent, though, and heโs shown that this season at โGers.
