On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and at the same time, got quarterback Aaron Rodgers signed and is ready to roll. There have only been a few practices but this doesn’t matter when it comes to media and fans making plenty of snap judgments and overreactions. Here are the three biggest so far.
Shuffling offensive linemen is a problem
Maybe it’s because I played on the offensive line but all this panic about the shuffling of positions isn’t something I’m going to be concerned with. No worries that somehow moving guys around to different spots in the middle of May is going to somehow negatively impact the team during the season. If the team is still moving guys around in late August, then we can worry.
The dreaded quarterback depth chart
Just like everyone is freaking out about offensive linemen taking snaps at new positions, the order the Steelers’ four quarterbacks are getting snaps is another thing that should only matter to the coaching staff. Whether or not Will Howard is getting on the field before Drew Allar right now will be irrelevant once training camp starts.
The return of Rodgers somehow fixes the team
If you are one of those fans or media members out there that thinks Rodgers joining this team suddenly makes all things right in the world, you are probably wrong. There is plenty of work to do and while we are glad Rodgers showed up earlier than last offseason, don’t act like did the team any favors as he took himself a massive raise along the way.
