The Los Angeles Sparks will be without star Kelsey Plum for at least the next week.
Plum went down with a sprained ankle in practice on Tuesday. While specifics of the incident or the severity of the injury are not yet known, Plum will be evaluated again in one week, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Plum, now in her second year with the Sparks, has averaged a league-high 26.8 points per game so far this season. She’s put up 6.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds per contest, too, while shooting a career-high 58.9% from the field.
The Sparks currently sit at 3-3 on the season after Saturday’s 101-95 win over the Las Vegas Aces.
While it’s unclear how long Plum will actually be sidelined, and the team likely isn’t in a spot where they’ll feel the need to rush her back, the injury comes at a slow time for the Sparks. The team is off until Friday’s matchup in Washington against the Mystics. They’ll take on the Connecticut Sun then on Saturday before returning home for a rematch with the Aces next Tuesday.
If Plum is out for just the one week, she could return in time for that third contest and end up only missing two games.
This post will be updated with more information shortly.
