Badin and Centerville ended the regular season as the state’s top ranked teams in their respective divisions, as released by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Centerville (22-4) maintained the top spot in Division I despite a 1-2 overall week that included a loss to No. 5 Moeller, which dropped one spot despite defeating the state’s top ranked team.
Badin (23-3) produced two shutouts including an 18-0 win against Mount Healthy to open district tournament play. Badin received 14 of the 17 first place votes.
Also finishing the season ranked in the top-five included No. 3 Troy (21-3) in D-II, No. 4 Tippecanoe (21-5) and No. 5 Butler (22-5) in D-III, No. 2 Coldwater (20-4) in D-V, and No. 3 St. Henry (22-3) and No. 5 Mechanicsburg (19-3) in D-VI.
D-III has the most area teams ranked with six of the top-20 being from the Miami Valley. Joining the other three are No. 6 Kenton Ridge (19-5), No. 7 Bellbrook (21-5), and No. 18 Monroe (18-6).
No. 8 Beavercreek (20-5), No. 11 Springboro (19-7), and No. 17 Lakota East (17-7) and all ranked in D-I, while No. 7 Arcanum (21-4), No. 8 Anna (20-5) and No. 15 Versailles (18-9).
Other teams finishing the season in the state rankings include D-II No. 13 Northmont (17-9) and D-IV No. 10 Urbana (22-6). In D-VII, Newton (19-4) is 6th, followed by Fort Loramie (15-9) in 11th and Russia (13-12) in 16th.
District semifinals began Tuesday, May 26, and continue Wednesday, May 27. District finals are scheduled to be played on Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29.
