May 27 (UPI) — Virgil van Dijk is among the soccer stars on the Netherlands’ 26-man roster for the 2026 World Cup, coach Ronald Koeman announced Wednesday.
Fellow defender Denzel Dumfries, forward Cody Gakpo and midfielders Frenkie de Jong and Tijjani Reijnders are among other significant selections on the roster.
The Netherlands ranks No. 7 in the FIFA world rankings. The Dutch are among the Top 10 favorites to win the World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Joining van Dijk and Dumfries on the Dutch defense will be Nathan Ake, Jorrel Hato, Jurrien Timber, Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven. Marten de Roon, Ryan Gravenberch, Teun Koopmeiners, Guus Til, Quinten Timber and Mats Wieffer join de Jong and Reijnders in the midfield.

Memphis Depay, Brian Brobbey, Justin Kluivert, Noa Lang, Donyell Malen, Crysencio Summerville and Wout Weghorst are among the other forwards on the roster.
Mark Flekken, Robin Roefs and Bart Verbruggen were the goalkeepers selected.
The Netherlands will host Algeria in a friendly June 3 in Rotterdam. Koeman’s squad will battle Uzbekistan in another friendly June 8 in New York.
The Netherlands will open Group F play at the World Cup against No. 18 Japan on June 14 in Arlington, Texas.
