The New England Patriots fired former Pro Bowl linebacker Jerod Mayo in January 2025 after one season as their head coach.
Just over one year later, the 40-year-old landed a new gig outside of football.
According to Mayo’s LinkedIn profile, he began as the Managing Director of Fifth Down Capital, a private equity and business capital firm, in February.
“Jerod joined Fifth Down as Managing Director. Prior to Fifth Down, he built a distinguished career with the New England Patriots as both a player and coach,” the Fifth Down website wrote. “In parallel with his professional career, Jerod has been an active investor and advisor to private companies for over a decade. He is known for his disciplined leadership style, emphasis on preparation and accountability, and ability to build trust-based relationships. He holds a degree in political science from the University of Tennessee.”
Mayo spent his entire eight-year playing career with the Patriots, earning two Pro Bowl nods, one First Team All-Pro honor, one Super Bowl ring and the 2008 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
After fifth seasons as a linebackers coach with New England, his previous successes didn’t translate with the lead gig, as Mayo finished 4-13 in his lone campaign at the helm as Bill Belichick’s successor.
