UCLA superstar slugger Megan Grant made history on the brightest stage on Friday night as she broke the UCLA career home runs record to help lead her team to a blowout victory over Arkansas in the College World Series.
Grant’s home run came in the second inning as part of a UCLA barrage that saw every Bruins player score a run during the inning. Grant’s home run was the team’s third of the inning.
The three-run bomb was the 91st home run of Grant’s career, pushing her past Stacey Nuveman for the most home runs in UCLA history.
“It’s like a dream, honestly,” said Grant, who now has an NCAA-record 42 home runs this season, via ESPN. “I’m just incredibly honored. Stacey Nuveman was a powerhouse. To be able to say my name is next to hers, I’m truly grateful for it.”
Thanks to the offensive barrage, UCLA eliminated Arkansas in just five innings, notching an 11-0 run-rule victory.
With the blowout victory, UCLA will now face the loser of Saturday’s game between Tennessee and Texas Tech in another elimination game Sunday. The Bruins will look to keep their season alive once again, and Grant will look to extend her record-breaking season and career.
“Whenever you’re not at your best, they’re going to expose you,” Arkansas coach Courtney Deifel said. “They exposed us tonight.”
