Flag Football leagues are popping up all over the country. Not only will we see flag football represented at the Olympics in 2028, but the NFL is hosting its 3rd Annual NFL FLAG Championships this summer. Many NFL teams across the league sponsor leagues throughout their demographic, and the Tennessee Titans are no different.
In Tennessee, girls flag football has expanded to over 160 participating schools, and with the support of the Titans and “generous financial contributions from Bridgestone,” Tennessee officially sanctioned girls flag football as a high school varsity sport, becoming just the 10th state in the country to do so. From their official page:
The Titans believe all girls should have the opportunity to play football and experience the game first-hand, learning skills that will enrich their futures. The commitment extends beyond the field, aiming to inform young women about potential career paths available to them throughout the sports industry and other ways to utilize knowledge of the game in life. The Titans Girls Flag Football League provides training in athletics, but most importantly life skills like teamwork and perseverance.
Now that the season has come to an end, the Titans have named their 2026 coach of the year.
Congratulations to James Smith of Creek Wood High School for being named the @Titans 2026 Girls Flag Football Coach of the Year!

Creek Wood High School is located in Charlotte, Tennessee, and participates in Region 6 with eight other teams. In just their second year of even having a flag football team, head coach James Smith took them all the way to a state title, with a huge boost from Hollee Wilson, who had four interceptions in the championship game to help seal the deal.
Congratulations to Coach Smitty on this prestigious award and to the Creek Wood High School girls’ flag football team!
