The FIFA Fan Festival at Boston City Hall Plaza will be closed on Thursday, June 18, due to poor weather conditions, organizers announced.
The Boston World Cup 2026 organizing committee sent out a notice confirming the closure shortly after 9 a.m. Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible across Massachusetts as a warm front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
“It’s our priority to ensure the safety of fans, staff, volunteers, and emergency services personnel,” the Boston World Cup 2026 organizing committee said.
The free public event has been operating since June 12 and is slated to run through June 27.
Four matches are scheduled for Thursday, June 18, though none are being played in Foxboro.
The Czechia vs. South Africa match is scheduled for noon ET, Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina for 3 p.m., Canada vs. Qatar for 6 p.m., and Mexico vs. South Korea for 9 p.m.
Boston’s FIFA Fan Festival features live broadcasts of two to three matches daily, along with musical performances, local food vendors, and fan activities, organizers said.
Organizers encouraged fans who were planning to attend on June 18 to register for a later date.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage you to enjoy the sport safely where you can,” organizers said on the FIFA Fan Festival Boston website.
