Week 1 of the 2026 North Carolina high school football season will arrive a day early for some teams.
The threat of storms across the state Friday, Aug. 21, has prompted dozens of teams to reschedule their season openers. Several games have already been moved to Thursday, Aug. 20, including road matchups for Hoggard and Trask.
Hoggard will face Richmond in Rockingham, while Trask will travel to Elizabethtown to play East Bladen.
Four Wilmington-area teams were originally scheduled to open the season at home: Laney, Topsail, South Brunswick and Pender.
