After Greenville Christian’s Week 0 matchup against Plano Coram Deo Academy, the Eagles came back home for a game against the Prosper Prestonwood Christian North Lions.
The Eagles came away with a 72-28 victory over the Lions for their first win and the game was realistically all but over by halftime.
After an opening drive that came up empty and an early score from the Lions, Greenville Christian put their pedal to the metal and never looked back.
Tristan Brown turned defense to offense when he made a key stop on fourth down to set the Eagles up with solid field position in the first quarter. Brown then caught a pass from Alex Feezel on the offensive side and raced to the corner of the end zone to give Greenville Christian the lead 8-6.
From there players like Levi Davenport and Jack Feezel took over. Davenport flashed his speed and elusiveness on the ground, including a long touchdown run where he took the ball from sideline to sideline before eventually finding an opening on a pair of jukes to take it to the house.
Feezel also took multiple receptions all the way using his speed. Despite the dominant first half, coach Brandon Fauley said his favorite sequence of the game came out of the second half.
The Eagles came within nine points of a mercy rule before halftime but the Lions started to fight back with multiple scores that made it 48-22 at halftime.
Fauley preached to the team in the locker room to keep their foot on the gas coming into the second half and they responded. Coming out of the half, the Feezel brothers connected on a long pass play that set up the Eagles in Lions territory.
Later in that drive, Alex Feezel would take the ball in himself to make it 56-22 which set the tone for the rest of the game.
The Eagles will be back at it again on Friday against the Lucas Christian Academy Warriors on the road.
